Joanna Gaines is someone very special.

I first came across her, maybe 7 or so years ago, when I watched her reality television show, Fixer Upper.

In it, she stars alongside her husband, Chip Gaines, where they renovate and ‘fix-up’ older houses, giving them a beautiful new lease on life.

I admired their integrity and commitment to their values, which always seemed to shine in areas of excellence and quality.

I also admired their joy and willingness to laugh in all sorts of situations.

But what stood out to me the most, was Joanna’s character, her personality.

I was always so used to seeing characters or ‘personas’ on television, that never quite seemed to be genuine or sincere, or too over-inflated with views of their own self to really see the real ‘them’.

So, it was refreshing to come across someone so genuine, so sincere, so real – that I was always moved to watch and enjoy their show.

In it, I also gained an appreciation for interior design and home decor styles, including the modern farmhouse aesthetic she is so known for.

But most of all, I want to honour her for her character, her integrity, her purity of heart – in doing what she was made to do, and doing it so well, with so much grace and purity of motives. She was never out to ‘get fame’ or attention or the spotlight, she was simply being who she was made to be, and inspiring millions of people in the process.

She is such a gift, and I will forever be grateful for the influence and effect she has had on my life.
