This Hydrangea watercolour art piece was part of a gift collection, made in 2021.
The drawing itself was completed using a combination of watercolour pencil and Sharpie marker pen.
The art piece was drawn on A3 watercolour paper, framed in an A2 frame with A3 insert.
Materials Used
- Sharpie Marker Pen (‘Mystic Gems’ set for softer pastel tone colours)
- Faber-Castell Watercolour Pencils
- Fine tip Paint Brush
- Water
- Watercolour Paper (A3)
- Frame (A2 frame, A3 insert)
Process
The flower head was drawn with Sharpie marker, in a soft pastel blue. I started at the centre petals and moved outward.
The most important thing is to plan ahead where you want the flower to be on the page, and how large you want it.
The leaves were drawn using watercolour pencil, layered with different colours to create depth. Then they were washed with water using a fine tip brush.
The colours of the leaves were deepened with more layers of watercolour pencil.
The final part of the process was to complete the wording underneath.
