Songs can be a powerful way to express ourselves, often revealing things about our personality, or the way our mind is wired, through the songs we listen to or connect with. Here I’ve selected some songs which I think fit some aspects of the different personality types. It’s not meant to be taken too seriously, but I hope it displays the differences in mind-wiring patterns, as reflected in song.

Extroverted Sensors (Se) – focused on the present, strongly connected to the five senses and the physical world
ESFP
Speaks to the outgoing, energetic and spontaneous nature of the ESFP: ‘We will run and scream, you will dance with me, we’ll fulfill our dreams and we’ll be free, We will be who we are. . . sadness will be far away.’
ISFP
Speaks to the individualistic, quietly adventurous and artistically sensitive nature of the ISFP: ‘Gotta hit the road, something changed in the atmosphere, architecture unfamiliar. . . Time flies by in the yellow and green.’
ISTP
‘Where did all the people go? They got scared. . . afraid of what they might lose, Might get scraped or they might get bruised’ – speaks to the independent, physically capable and generally fearless nature of the ISTP.
ESTP
‘You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains. . . You raise me up, To more than I can be’ – speaks to the often grand pursuits of the ESTP, as well as generally having a more refined taste in life.
Introverted Sensors (Si) – connected to the past, traditions, norms, customs and enjoys stability and routines
ESTJ
‘I’m not giving up, even when I’m down to my last breath, Even when they say there’s nothin’ left’ – speaks to the drive and persistence of the ESTJ.
ISTJ
Speaking to their sometimes serious but always reliable nature: ‘you’ve got the morning, I’ve got midnight. . . You’ve got your sunshine, I’ve got rainclouds, You’ve got hope, I’ve got my doubts’
ISFJ
‘I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do. . . And I think to myself, what a wonderful world’ – speaks to the nostalgic and the simple things in life that the ISFJ holds so dear.
ESFJ
‘Up and over the mountain. . . when you can’t keep going, I will shoulder your burden’ – the ESFJ, ever loyal and dependable, always ready to lend a hand, this song speaks to their people-generous nature.
Extroverted Intuition (Ne) – extremely creative, thoughts tend to expand and diverge, asks ‘what if?’
ENTP
‘”I am”… I said, To no one there, And no one heard at all, Not even the chair’ – speaks to the offbeat sense of humour of the ENTP that often plays on illogic and the absurd.
INTP
When words really aren’t necessary – these are the abstract thinkers, the explorers in their mind.
INFP
‘I’d like to live out all my dreams, and if I could, yes if I could. . . You’re a part of me, that dreams are all about’ – the dreamers, having a rich hidden inner world that few know of, and even fewer are let in.
ENFP
Because some things just can’t be put into words – speaks to the wonder and highly creative nature of the ENFP.
Introverted Intuition (Ni) – extremely visionary and future-focused, adept at viewing things from multiple perspectives
ENFJ
Speaks to the tremendous people-capacity of the ENFJ to share in and carry other’s burdens – ‘I’ll be your arms. . . and when you can’t rise, I’ll crawl with you on hands and knees, Cause I’m gonna stand by you. . . And, love, if your wings are broken, borrow mine ’til yours can open.’
INFJ
Speaks to the mysterious, gentle nature of the INFJ, deeply observant yet somehow detached – ‘Hold me fast through the deep and steady current. . . Send Your joy, illuminate the darkness, How long, how long ‘till these tears are gone.’
INTJ
‘You can have my heart, you can have my whole heart, you can have every part of me’ – speaks to the depth of the INTJ that few would know.
ENTJ
‘It’s darkest right before the sun. . . But I refuse to leave my life, to fall between the cracks of my control.’ – speaks to the resolute, goal-driven mind of the ENTJ.
