Where Does My Money Go?

September 2023

Knowing where your money goes is such an important step in planning for your future.

While we all probably have a basic idea of where our money goes, not many of us know what has been going on behind the scenes, for decades.

It’s a safe bet to assume that most of us don’t regularly search the US Stock Exchanges, or scroll through Yahoo Finance to learn who the major shareholders are of the world’s most well known companies.

But if you did, you may be in for a surprise.

This documentary came to my attention a few years ago. It describes the state of the world’s financial system and where our money actually goes.

It’s an eye-opening watch.

What are Central Banks?

Central banks exist outside of a ruling or governing body, save for the Bank for International Settlements. These central banks determine the money supply for their corresponding country.

As one writer puts it:

“While central banks disguise themselves as government institutions and purport to act in the best interest of their respective nations, the fact remains that the majority of them are private institutions that are completely independent and are mainly focused on funneling profits to their shareholders – whom, unfortunately, are obscured in a veil of extreme secrecy. Since central banks are set up as private corporations, they are under no legal requirement to disclose their true owners or shareholders. In this respect, they are highly secretive and nefarious.”
